Equalities Officer Positions in the BVU

The British Veterinary Union in Unite (BVU) is dedicated to protecting our members and the wider veterinary community from workplace discrimination.

Sadly, discrimination in the workplace is commonplace in the veterinary sector, and as such there is much Equalities work to be done on the BVU Committee! Therefore, we are changing how this position sits and have recruited for the following positions. These roles will effectively be a job share of the previous single role of Equalities Officer, and all five positions would be expected to work together with shared objectives.

1. Over-arching Equalities Officer – in this role, you will be expecting to co-ordinate campaigns and work relating to all equalities issues, support the other equalities reps and sit on committees outside the BVU where appropriate.

2. Disabilities Representative – in this role, you will be expected to co-ordinate equalities campaigns and support for employees facing discriminatory actions at work based on disability related issues, and to communicate and work with other stakeholder organisations relating to disability issues in the workplace.

3. BAEM Representative – in this role, you will be expected to co-ordinate equalities campaigns and support for employees facing discriminatory actions at work based on race related issues, and to communicate and work with other stakeholder organisations relating to issues of race or ethnicity based discrimination in the workplace.

4. LGBTQ+ Representative – in this role, you will be expected to co-ordinate equalities campaigns and support for employees facing discriminatory actions at work based on LGBTQ+ related issues, and to communicate and work with other stakeholder organisations relating to LGBTQ+ issues in the workplace.

5. Women’s Representative – in this role, you will be expected to co-ordinate equalities campaigns and support for employees facing discriminatory actions at work based on gender related issues, and to communicate and work with other stakeholder organisations relating to gender based issues in the workplace.

Applications closed 6 May 2022 and we will soon be able to let BVU members know who our new Equalities Reps are.
